Yarmouth Rural RCMP has charged a man for eighteen offences after an incident that involved threats, assault, arson, dangerous driving, and other offences.

On October 10, at approximately 6:25 p.m., Yarmouth Rural RCMP responded to a report of a man who assaulted two people inside a residence in Little River Harbour. The man, who was in possession of a replica firearm, left in a stolen vehicle before police arrived.

While officers conducted patrols to locate the man, identified as 25-year-old Andrew Harding, he returned to the home. Harding made further threats to the people inside the residence then attempted to set the house on fire. One of the occupants of the home was able to quickly extinguish the fire.

When police returned to the home, Harding left in the stolen vehicle. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop but Harding refused to stop. In the interest of public safety, officers did not pursue the vehicle.

Yarmouth Town RCMP officers located the vehicle a short time later on Hwy. 334 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Harding did not stop and continued to drive in an erratic manner, including passing unsafely. Officers again did not pursue the vehicle.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., officers located the vehicle stopped on Vancouver St. in Yarmouth and arrested Harding who was nearby.

Harding is facing eighteen charges:

  • Breaking and Entering with Intent
  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Assault (two counts)
  • Overcoming Resistance to Commission of Offence
  • Uttering Threats (two counts)
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
  • Mischief (three counts)
  • Resist Arrest
  • Assaulting a Peace Officer
  • Motor Vehicle Theft
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order (two counts)

Harding had a first court appearance on October 14 at Yarmouth Provincial Court and remains in custody.
