The RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit (NEN MCU) is providing updates about the investigation into the 2024 homicides of Keleana Trask and Tyler Meagher as investigators continue to seek information from witnesses.
On November 9 at approximately 2:10 p.m., Pictou County District RCMP responded to a report of an abandoned burned vehicle on MacLean Rd. in Greenhill. Responding officers located human remains inside the vehicle. The circumstances were considered suspicious and the NEN MCU assumed the lead of the investigation. The remains were later identified as those of Keleana “Kelly” Trask, 32, of Truro, and Tyler Meagher, 34, of Grand Prairie, Alberta.
With investigative support from RCMP Nova Scotia Forensic Identification Services (FIS), the Office of the Fire Marshal, and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, officers determined that the fire was deliberately set and officers believe that both Trask and Meagher were deceased before the fire started.
Video from a variety of sources has allowed investigators to learn more about the days leading up to the homicides, which are believed to have occurred on November 9. Investigators have been able to identify vehicles observed in the MacLean Rd. area around the time that the fire was set. At this point, the NEN MCU is continuing to seek witnesses as well as anyone who has information about Kelly and Tyler in the days before their deaths.
“We’ve been able to advance our investigation with the support of the community and partner agencies. We are now continuing to appeal to the public for information related to the days before and after the homicides took place,” says Cst. Tom Dunderdale, lead investigator. “What may seem like a small detail could play a big part in our investigation.”
