Update, 2:00 p.m., alert cancelled in Antigonish County:
Second man is safely arrested by RCMP. There is no longer a public safety risk. The emergency alert has been cancelled.

Update, 12:50 p.m.: One man is safely in custody in Antigonish County. RCMP remain in the area of Pomquet Forks seeking the second man. Alert continues to be active for Antigonish County.

Additional context, 12:31 p.m.: Two men fled from traffic stop. Believed to have firearms. No shots fired.

Public advisory: alert issued, Antigonish County: 

Dangerous people believed to have firearms. Pomquet Forks, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia. RCMPNS responding. Two men, believed to be armed, abandoned vehicle and fled on foot nearest 124 Heatherton Village Rd. Residents: Seek immediate shelter or stay inside and close and lock doors and windows. Do not pick up hitch hikers or provide a ride to anyone asking for one. Call 911 to report emergencies or tips. Do not disclose police locations. Updates will be posted to RCMPNS website and social accounts.
