Barrington RCMP Detachment has arrested a youth for dangerously operating a vehicle and fleeing from police.
On April 9, at approximately 3 p.m., a Barrington RCMP officer was proactively patrolling along Hwy. 103 nearest Clyde River when they observed a grey Honda Civic with no licence plate. The officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle but the Civic didn’t stop and increased its speed. In consideration of public safety, the officer deactivated their lights and sirens and did not pursue the Civic.
The Civic was observed on Hwy. 103 and Hwy. 3 by multiple officers on patrol in the area. The officers then received a report that the Civic collided with another vehicle, a Honda CRV, at the intersection of River Head Rd. and Hwy. 3. before continuing onto Hwy. 3. No injuries were reported as a result of this collision.
Through the investigation, officers located the Civic at a residence in Lower Clyde River on April 10 and identified the driver.
A 17-year-old of Bush Island was safely arrested for dangerously operating a motor vehicle, fleeing police and several offences under the Motor Vehicle Act. He was released pending a future court appearance.
