Traffic stop leads to seizure of illegal tobacco and cannabis

RCMP Southeast Traffic Services seized a quantity of illegal cannabis and unstamped tobacco and charged the driver following a traffic stop near Goffs.
On May 28, at approximately 10:18 a.m., an officer was conducting traffic enforcement on Hwy. 102 when they observed a pickup truck with front tinted windows. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the Dodge Ram.
During the stop, the officer observed multiple cases of unstamped tobacco in the vehicle. The driver was safely arrested for possession of unstamped tobacco under the Excise Act.
In a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers seized the unstamped tobacco, including approximately 60,000 cigarettes and 17,000 cigars, along with illegal dried and edible cannabis.
The 38-year-old driver from Millbrook was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in court at a future date to face charges under the Cannabis Act, Excise Act, Revenue Act, and Criminal Code. The vehicle, a 2022 Dodge Ram 1500, was seized under the Excise Act.
The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by the Nova Scotia Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division.
