Clyde River man charged following “Shelter in Place” alert issued.

In the early morning hours of January 28, 2025, Clyde River RCMP received a complaint of a distraught man who was reported to have a firearm and was threatening to shoot police.
The RCMP issued a “Shelter in Place” alert for residents of Clyde River.
Police were able to locate the man in a residence, and began negotiating with him. At approximately 8:15 a.m., efforts to negotiate were successful and the man surrendered to police peacefully. The “Shelter in Place” was lifted, after the man was taken into custody.
On January 29, 2025, Travis Kautaq (age 28) was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Uttering Threats to cause death, Section 264.1(1)(a) C.C
- Possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, Section 88 C.C
Kautaq was release from custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for February 24, 2025, in Clyde River, Nunavut.
