The Nunavut RCMP Specialized Investigative Team (SIT) would like to remind Nunavummiut that anyone who shares an intimate image of someone else without their consent is committing a criminal offence and could face criminal charges. If you receive an intimate image from someone else, that does not give you permission to share or post it online.
Additionally, if the person in the image is under 18 years of age, it is considered Child Pornography.
To prevent intimate images from being shared online without consent, the RCMP encourages people to be very mindful of the photographs that they share, Circumstances change, your spouse, partner or friend today, may not be your spouse, partner or friend tomorrow. Once you share an intimate image, you no longer have control over who sees it.
If your intimate images are shared online or you see intimate images of someone you know:
- Preserve the evidence (take a screenshot of the image or video with the user name, record the name of the site where the image/video was posted); and
- Contact Police
