Iqaluit RCMP assisting with fire investigation

On January 8, 2025, at approximately 5:35 p.m, the Iqaluit RCMP were notified by the Iqaluit Fire Department that building 1088 Mivvik street was on fire. RCMP members arrived on scene and began assisting the Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement, by blocking off roads and ensuring the public maintained a safe distance.
The RCMP were notified that all occupants were evacuated from the building, and there was no reports of injuries or missing persons. A temporary shelter was established at the Cadet Hall with assistance from the Royal Canadian Legion.
At around 8:30 p.m the fire intensified and flames could be seen from the outside of the building and by 1:00 a.m, the entire building collapsed.
This fire in under investigation by the Iqaluit Fire Department with support from the Nunavut Fire Marshal’s office and the Iqaluit RCMP.
The Iqaluit RCMP would like to thank all the first responders for their efforts, the residents of Iqaluit who offered their assistance, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Cadet Hall for offering shelter.
