Igloolik RCMP investigating fire that destroyed local arena

On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at approximately 2:20 a.m., the Igloolik RCMP received a report that the Kipsigak arena was on fire.

When police arrived, the Igloolik Volunteer Fire Department was on scene. Throughout the night and into the morning, the fire intensified and spread to the entire arena. A safety perimeter was created with the assistance of local police, the volunteer fire department, Hamlet workers and the Canadian Rangers. By the afternoon, the entire building was destroyed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Igloolik RCMP are investigating the incident with the assistance of the Nunavut RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit and the Nunavut Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Igloolik RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information related to the incident to contact them at 867-934-0123.
