On April 12, 2025, at around 1:45 p.m, the Iqaluit RCMP issues a public notice advising residents of Iqaluit that police were investigating a suspicious item that was located in a residence in the 2600 area.

Police had been called to the vacant residence for an unrelated matter and came across what appeared to be a suspicious item. In an effort to safely examine the item, police consulted with the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit in Ottawa. A unified decision was made to treat the item as hazardous until further analysis could be made by the Explosive Disposal Unit. Police closed off the street, created a safe perimeter and waited for the specialize team to arrive.

At around 10:00 p.m, the Explosive Disposal Unit arrived to Iqaluit. The item was eventually confirmed safe and removed for disposal. By 11:00 p.m, the RCMP updated the public and departed the area.

Police do not feel the item was intentionally made to look like a hazard. As no one was residing in the vacant unit, police will not be investigating the matter any further.

The Iqaluit RCMP would like to thank the public for their cooperation and for understanding any necessary road closures.
