Baker Lake RCMP lay charges following firearms investigation

On Friday, November 7, 2025, shortly after 8:00 p.m, the Baker Lake RCMP responded to a report that a man had discharged a firearm within the 3000 block.
When police arrived on scene, they were able to locate a suspect but were unable to arrest him and he fled from police. Police were able to make contact with the suspect, and he agreed to turn himself in.
The Baker Lake RCMP have charged, Norman Haqpi (age 58) with:
- Careless use of a Firearm, Section 86(1) C.C
- Pointing a Firearm, Section 87(1) C.C
- Discharging a Firearms, Section 244.2 C.C
- Assault with a Weapon, Section 267(a) C.C
Haqpi has been in police custody and will appear before a justice via teleconference for a bail hearing, which is scheduled for November 10, 2025.
“The Baker Lake RCMP thank the public for their assistance during this incident. There were no reported injuries, and we are happy the incident was resolved peacefully”. Said a member of the Baker Lake RCMP.
