The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are proud to announce the successful allotment of more than 1,300 toys to children across Nunavut as part of the annual Toys for the North campaign. This initiative, made possible through partnerships with the Canadian Toy Association, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and local community volunteers, ensures that children in remote northern communities experience the joy of the holiday season.
Each year, RCMP detachments across Canada submit requests to participate in the program. Toys are collected by the Canadian Toy Association, carefully prepared by volunteers, and flown to hub centers such as Iqaluit, on special Royal Canadian Air Force flights. Once they arrive in Iqaluit, local RCMP employees, police officers, and their families sort and wrap each gift before distributing them to the selected communities.
This year, Baker Lake, Pangnirtung, Sanirajak, and for the first time ever, Grise Fiord, have been selected to receive gifts. With the exception of Grise Fiord (whom will receive their package via the generous assistance from Canadian North Cargo), we rely on the RCMP pilot and plane to deliver the gifts into the communities.
We take note that the Frobisher Bay Touchdown Services (FBO) provided vital support by storing the gifts as they arrived in Iqaluit during the RCMP’s Change of Command ceremony, where Chief Superintendent Kent Pike was welcomed as the new Commanding Officer for the Nunavut RCMP.
“The RCMP is honoured to serve the people of Nunavut. We live and work alongside the communities we protect, and initiatives like Toys for the North reflect our commitment to respect, partnership, and shared responsibility for community well-being,” said Chief Superintendent Kent Pike.
The RCMP extends heartfelt thanks to all partners and volunteers who made this year’s campaign possible. Together, we are building stronger connections and spreading holiday cheer across Canada’s North.
Wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday season,
The Nunavut Royal Canadian Mounted Police
