The Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crime Unit has concluded the investigation into a homicide that occurred on May 17th, 2024.
On May 17th, 2024, the Yellowknife RCMP received a complaint reporting shots fired at an apartment building in Yellowknife, NT. Officers attended and located 30-year-old Jonathan Gon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the life saving attempts by medical staff, Gon was pronounced deceased on scene.
The Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crime Unit took over the investigation and subsequently identified a suspect. As investigators were working to gather evidence to support an arrest and charges related to this homicide, the suspect died out of territory. Investigators continued to investigate the homicide and have ruled out the potential that anyone else was involved in the death of Jonathan Gon.
At this time the investigation into this incident has been concluded and the RCMP are not looking for other suspects. Jonathan Gon’s family has been kept up to date at every stage of this investigation and was notified of the conclusion of the investigation.
