Sasha Bena

On February 24th, 2025, the Fort Good Hope RCMP responded to a call of a suspicious sudden death. RCMP were contacted when family members located a 29-year-old man deceased in his residence. RCMP officers attended and determined that the man died as a result of a homicide.

The Northwest Territories Major Crime Unit took carriage of the investigation and quickly identified a suspect. With the assistance of RCMP officers in Quebec, Sasha Bena (18) of Montreal, Quebec, was arrested in Montreal on March 13th, 2025. Bena has been charged with Murder contrary to Section 235 of the Criminal Code and was brought back to Yellowknife for subsequent court proceedings. RCMP determined through investigation that Bena was in Fort Good Hope as part of the illicit drug trade.

The Northwest Territories RCMP would like to thank the members of the community of Fort Good Hope for their cooperation and support. The Major Crime Unit would also like to extend their gratitude to the officers with the “C” Division RCMP who tirelessly worked to provide assistance to this investigation.

This investigation is still active and ongoing and investigators believe there may still be people who have information to provide to police. Anyone who has information about this incident or recognizes Sasha Bena from Fort Good Hope or Norman Wells is asked to contact their local RCMP Detachment.

Quotes

“This homicide is a difficult reminder of the dangerous and exploitative nature of the illicit drug trade. Drug traffickers are coming to our communities to take advantage of people’s addictions and leave behind nothing but pain and suffering,”

“This arrest should serve as warning to those who would come to the territory to commit violence that the RCMP has a long reach and we are committed to bringing violent criminals to justice.”

Sgt. Jason Hurley, Unit Commander - G Divisions Major Crimes Unit
