A 32-year-old Tyne Valley man has died from injuries received in a single vehicle crash on Route 132 in the Northam area of western PEI.

Just before 7:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, East Prince RCMP, Tyne Valley Fire Department and Island EMS were dispatched to an iPhone crash detection call on Route 132 (Northam Road). Initial indications appear to show the car crossed the center line and went into the ditch on the opposite side of the road. The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved in the incident. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this incident.

The driver was treated by Island EMS and Tyne Valley Fire Department members. The man was taken to hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. The PEI Coroner’s office and RCMP are investigating this incident.

iPhone Crash Detection uses the phone's motion sensors along with other data such as a microphone and GPS to identify patterns indicating a severe car crash. If a crash is detected, the iPhone sounds an alarm and displays an alert for 10 seconds. If the user is unresponsive, it initiates an emergency call, plays an audio message to emergency services with location coordinates, and notifies emergency contacts.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this difficult time.
