As part of an ongoing drug investigation, the Provincial Joint Enforcement Team (JET) has arrested and charged a man and woman in Charlottetown.

In mid-November 2025, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers in Mirabel, Quebec intercepted and inspected a commercial parcel destined to an address in Charlottetown. A plastic container filled with a brown substance was found inside the package. Testing at CBSA’s laboratory later confirmed the contents to be opium, weighing approximately 8 kg. The seizure was referred to CBSA Intelligence and Enforcement Operations in the Atlantic Region, who then worked with the RCMP in PEI to share intelligence and evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

The RCMP investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Charlottetown and two arrests on December 4, 2025.

Sukhjeet Singh has been remanded into custody, Sandeep Kaur was released on conditions and both will appear in Charlottetown Provincial Court on December 18, 2025 to answer to the following charges.

  1. Possession for the purpose of trafficking opium (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act)
  2. Unlawfully importing a schedule 1 substance (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act)

This investigation remains ongoing and is being coordinated through the Provincial Jet Team with the assistance of:

  • RCMP Provincial General Investigation Section
  • RCMP Eastern Region Federal Policing
  • Prince County Joint Forces Operation
  • Summerside Police Services
  • Kensington Police Services
  • Criminal Intelligence Services PEI
  • RCMP Forensic Identification Services
  • RCMP Digital Forensic Services.

“Opium is the base ingredient for many opiate drugs, including morphine, codeine, thebaine, and others. Seizing opium in this form is exceptionally rare in PEI and this is a significant amount of opium that was removed from Island streets. This is the third significant drug seizure for the JET Team in the last several weeks which demonstrates the success of a collaborative approach between enforcement agencies in addressing illegal drugs on PEI,” said Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis, Commanding Officer of the PEI RCMP.

The Joint Enforcement Team is a standalone policing unit comprised of officers from Summerside Police Services, the PEI RCMP, RCMP Federal Policing (Eastern Region), and Kensington Police Services. The team works to identify, disrupt, and dismantle drug and organized crime activity in Prince Edward Island. Anyone with information about drug activity in their community is encouraged to contact their local police.
