Early on January 13, Kings District RCMP responded to an alarm at RJ’s Country Store in Baldwin Road. A stolen truck had smashed into the building. Two people were later arrested in that truck in Summerside.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., police learned that a stolen pickup truck had been backed into the front of the store to gain entry, causing significant damage to the building. Two suspects entered the store but did not take anything of significant value before fleeing the scene.

Later that day, RCMP received a report of a stolen pickup truck from Montague that matched the vehicle involved in the break and enter.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. RCMP located the stolen vehicle and force it to stop in the north end of Summerside. A 34-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving by drug and possession of stolen property, and a 38-year-old woman was also arrested. The man appeared in court today and the woman will appear in court at a later date on these matters. She was turned over to Charlottetown Police custody for investigations in their jurisdiction.

Christopher Wayne Rush has been charged with Possession of stolen property over $5,000 and breach of probation. He was remanded into custody until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow in Summerside Provincial Court. Several other offences are still under investigation.

These events covered multiple jurisdictions and included the following police units: RCMP in Kings District, Queens District, Prince District, Traffic Services, General Investigation Section, as well as Charlottetown Police, Provincial Joint Enforcement Team, and Joint Forces Operations.

“This investigation is a great example of how multiple police units work together across all three counties on PEI. The calculated coordination of resources and specialized tools helped to bring these two suspects into custody safely. Great work by our officers in bringing this to a quick conclusion.”, said Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis, Commanding Officer of the PEI RCMP.

PEI RCMP would like to remind all Islanders to never leave your keys in an unattended vehicle.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Kings District RCMP at 902-838-9300.
