On February 17 at 3:16 p.m., RCMP Traffic Services officers received a tip from the public regarding a suspected impaired driver operating an SUV in the Stratford area. This arrest marks the third impaired driver stopped in Stratford this week, and the second impaired driving arrest made by PEI RCMP Traffic Services in Stratford on the same day.

Officers located the vehicle shortly after receiving the tip and conducted a traffic stop. During the interaction, officers observed signs that the 34‑year‑old driver was impaired by cannabis. Inside the vehicle were another adult and two children. The driver was arrested and later provided a blood sample following a demand made under the Criminal Code. In accordance with provincial legislation, the driver was issued a 7‑day driving suspension. The investigation remains ongoing.

Impaired driving puts everyone at risk — including passengers, other road users, and loved ones. This incident illustrates how many lives can be affected when a driver chooses to get behind the wheel while impaired. This arrest brings the total number of impaired driving arrests by PEI RCMP to seven this week.

The RCMP thanks the public for reporting their concerns and reminds Islanders:

If you see a suspected impaired driver, call 911.
