Kings District RCMP arrested two individuals, seized drugs and drug paraphernalia resulting from a roadside check stop.
At 2:00 a.m., Kings District RCMP set up a check point on Route 3 in Vernon River as part of ongoing efforts supporting Canada Road Safety Week. A vehicle came through the check stop, and as part of routine questioning of the driver, open liquor and drug paraphernalia was seen in the vehicle.
Police queried the license plate and found that it was not the proper plate for the vehicle that was stopped. Based on the Liquor Act and Cannabis Act, police conducted a further search of the vehicle and found 15 grams of cocaine, a quantity of crack cocaine, scales and other drug paraphernalia as well as cash.
A 34-year-old Queens County woman and a 38-year-old Kings County man were arrested for Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking. The investigation regarding this incident is ongoing.
Canada Road Safety Week is an enforcement-driven initiative led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP), designed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures in order to save lives and reduce injuries on Canadian roads. The campaign is focused on addressing behaviours that put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users most at risk such as impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, or driving without a seatbelt.
