Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigating homicide on Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation

On March 25, 2025 at approximately 12:10 p.m., Wollaston Lake RCMP received a report that someone had been seriously injured near a residence on Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation.

Officers responded immediately and located a deceased adult male. He has been identified as 24-year-old Gaten Josie ‘Joseyounen’ from Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation. His family has been notified.

The death was considered suspicious and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation. 

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is asking anyone who lives in the area, or who drove through Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation on March 25 between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., to check their home security cameras or dash cameras. If your device captured images or videos of suspicious activity, please report it to police immediately.
