Beauval RCMP: two charged after shooting

On April 27, 2025 at approximately 12:45 a.m., Beauval RCMP received a report of a shooting on Canoe Lake Cree First Nation.
Officers immediately responded and located an adult male with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
As a result of investigation, officers identified then located a suspect vehicle in the community. They activated their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop.
Officers pursued the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes. The occupants of the vehicle threw items from it as it was moving. The responding officers had to swerve the police vehicle to avoid the items.
The occupants also flashed a flashlight at a police vehicle in an apparent attempt to distract the officer driving.
The suspect vehicle then left the roadway on Highway #903 and came to a stop. The driver ran into a nearby forested area. The passenger was arrested.
The driver was later located and arrested with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System.
As a result of continued investigation, 21-year-old Keegan Janvier from Clearwater River Dene Nation and 22-year-old Deon Libsekal from Edmonton are each charged with:
- one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code;
- one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code;
- one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
- one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code; and
- one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87(1), Criminal Code;
They are next scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on May 5, 2025 (Information 90536347).
