On April 8, 2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m., Punnichy RCMP received a firearms-related call for service on the Kawacatoose First Nation. On-duty officers immediately began travelling there.

One of the responding officers was travelling in a police vehicle on the Kandahar grid road.

The police vehicle struck a pedestrian who was on the road. The incident occurred near a rural residence on the Kawacatoose First Nation, approximately 600 metres from the main community site.

The officer, who was not physically injured, immediately called for an ambulance and provided first aid to the pedestrian until EMS arrived.

The pedestrian – a 16-year-old male – sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. STARS Air Ambulance airlifted him to hospital in Regina and he has since been transferred to Saskatoon.

As required by The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan RCMP notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). SIRT will investigate the circumstances of the collision and the pedestrian’s injuries.

The Saskatchewan RCMP is disclosing this as part of our ongoing commitment to transparency.

Any inquiries regarding this matter can be directed to SIRT, which will be providing further updates as their investigation unfolds.

The firearms-related incident remains under investigation by the RCMP.
