Nipawin RCMP: male arrested after pointing an imitation firearm at police

On May 8, 2025 at approximately 6:55 p.m., Nipawin RCMP received a report of break and enter at a residence in Nipawin, SK.

Investigation determined an unknown male, armed with what was described as a firearm, entered the residence where he was confronted by a female inside. A verbal exchange occurred and the male fled from the residence. The female was not physically injured.

Officers responded immediately and searched the area and could not locate the male. Officers continued to make patrols in the area.

Later that same day, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Nipawin RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle in Nipawin, SK. Officers responded and located the vehicle in a residential area. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled.

Shortly after, officers located the stolen vehicle on 8th Street West in Nipawin. The stolen vehicle came to a stop and a male occupant in the vehicle pointed what appeared to be a firearm at the responding officers. The male exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot from police. Officers arrested the male at the scene. Officers seized a paintball gun at the scene. 

As a result of investigation, 31-year-old Jewels Budd from Nipawin, SK is charged with:

  • one count, breaking and entering with intent, Section 348(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, theft of truck, Section 333.1(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, using imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, Section 85(2)(a), Criminal Code;
  • three counts, resists/obstructs peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;
  • three counts, pointing a firearm, Section 87(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code; and
  • one count, theft under $5000, Section 334(b), Criminal Code.

Jewels Budd is scheduled to appear in Nipawin Provincial Court on May 12.
