Update – Fond du Lac RCMP: adult male escapes lawful custody

On May 4, 2025, an adult male escaped while being held in custody at the Fond du Lac RCMP detachment. Later that same day, the adult male was located at a residence in Fond du Lac, SK. The male resisted arrest and attempted to assault the responding officers; however, officers were able to bring him safely into custody. The officers were not physically injured.
As a result of continued investigation, 39-year-old Richard McDonald has been additionally charged with:
- one count, escape lawful custody, Section 145(1), Criminal Code; and
- two counts, assault on police officer, Section 270(2), Criminal Code.
Richard McDonald is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on May 12, 2025.

Fond du Lac RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in locating an adult male who escaped while being held in custody at the local detachment.
39-year-old Richard McDonald was remanded into custody on May 2, 2025, in relation to a number of charges including assault, resisting arrest and mischief.
He was last seen on Main Road, in the area of the Fond du Lac RCMP Detachment at approximately 12:30 a.m. on May 4, 2025. He fled on foot, travelling south.
McDonald is described as approximately 5’10” and 209 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing a grey shirt and black sweatpants with white lettering. He was not wearing any shoes. Given the cold temperature in Fond Du Lac, officers are concerned for his well-being.
