Replica submachine gun and loaded prohibited pistol seized by Prince Albert CRT

A replica submachine gun, loaded pistol and an unknown powder were located by police officers executing a search warrant at a house in Nipawin.

On November 10, 2025, 44-year-old John Fortin of Nipawin, Sk. was arrested in Nipawin in relation to an ongoing investigation by the RCMP’s Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team (CRT). A quantity of cocaine was seized during his arrest.

On November 10 a search warrant was executed at a residence in Nipawin by Prince Albert RCMP and Prince Albert Police Service CRT’s and the RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team. At the house officers located and seized:

  • A loaded prohibited pistol
  • A carbine rifle with no serial numbers and loaded prohibited magazines
  • A rifle
  • A replica submachine gun
  • A conducted energy weapon (commonly known as taser)
  • Materials consistent with drug trafficking including a scale and packaging
  • 300 grams of an unknown white powder – it will be sent to Health Canada for further examination.

A female was arrested at the house and was later released without charge.

John Fortin is charged with:

  • 1 count, Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, section 95(1) of the Criminal Code
  • 2 counts, Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
  • 3 counts, unsafe storage of a firearm, section 86(2) of the Criminal Code)

“This investigation determined drugs were being trafficked in the Nipawin, Tisdale, Melfort, Carrot River and surrounding area. It’s the result of inter-provincial collaboration and excellent work by our criminal analysts and investigators that we continue to identify sources of criminal activity and take enforcement action to help keep our communities safe,” says Corporal Tyler Kerr of the RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team.
