Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) located and arrested a wanted male in a remote area of Manitoba.
In October, WEST began concerted efforts to locate a 31-year-old male, who was wanted by Southend RCMP for charges including sexual interference. We are not providing the male’s name to be mindful of the privacy of the victim, who is a youth.
Investigation determined the male was evading arrest in Lac Brochet, a remote community in northwest Manitoba.
On November 15, WEST, Police Dog Services and officers from Manitoba RCMP’s Thompson detachment visited the community. Investigation determined the male drove away on a quad as police approached a residence he was known to frequent. Officers followed his tracks across a frozen lake, then located and arrested him without incident in a forested area. Officers used a remotely piloted aircraft system to assist during the operation.
The male was transported back to Saskatchewan and is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on November 17.
Saskatchewan RCMP Air Services assisted with this investigation.
