Southey RCMP investigate a suspended drivers licence, leads to 19 additional charges

An adult male faces 19 additional charges following their arrest for a suspended driver’s licence. 

On January 14, 2026, Southey RCMP identified a suspended driver, driving a vehicle on Piapot First Nation. An RCMP officer stopped the vehicle and arrested the male driver. 

As a result of police investigation, a search of the vehicle took place. During the search of the vehicle, officers located and seized a firearm, steel brass knuckles, a baton, approximately 40 grams of suspected cocaine, 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 5 grams of suspected fentanyl, open alcohol, and a sum of cash.  The substances will be sent to Health Canada for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, 41-year-old Robin Kaiswatum from Piapot First Nation is charged with: 

• one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act;
• one count, possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
• two counts, carrying concealed weapon, Section 90(1), Criminal Code;
• three counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
• one count, possession of firearm in motor vehicle, Section 94(2), Criminal Code;
• ten counts, weapons possession contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code; and
• one count, refusal to comply with demand, Section 320.15(1), Criminal Code. 

Kaiswatum is currently remanded and is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on January 29, 2026.
