Cumberland House RCMP: Two charged following shooting

Two people are charged after a shooting took place in Cumberland House, SK on January 22, 2026.

On January 22, 2026, around 8:00 a.m., Cumberland House RCMP received a report of an injured male at a business in Cumberland House, SK. RCMP officers immediately responded, along with EMS, and located the male with gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital by EMS with injuries described as serious. We do not have an update on their condition.

Investigation determined two males with firearms broke into a residence in Cumberland House. An altercation occurred and one of them was shot by a third male who was inside the residence. The initial two males fled – the injured male went to the business mentioned previously.

RCMP officers remained at the scene and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, Critical Incident Response Team, Serious Crimes Unit and Prince Albert Federal Investigation Section were engaged to assist. Around 1:40 p.m., the male exited the residence and was arrested without incident. Two other individuals exited the residence. One was arrested on separate charges and the other was released without charge.

29-year-old Preston Crane from Cumberland House, SK, is charged with:

  • one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code; and
  • one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code.

Preston Crane is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on January 30, 2026.

On January 25, 2026, 20-year-old Jaidyne Lalibertey from Cumberland House, SK, was located in a vehicle in Cumberland House and was arrested by RCMP. In a search of the vehicle, officers located ammunition in the glove box. Jaidyne Lalibertey is charged with:

  • one count, extortion, Section 346(1.1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, break and enter with intent, Section 348(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code.

Jaidyne Lalibertey is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on February 5, 2026.

The investigation continues.

In addition to RCMP officers, the Saskatchewan Marshalls Services and conservation officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch assisted with scene security during this incident.

 

Background:

Cumberland House RCMP charged a male after a victim was seriously injured in a shooting.

On January 22, 2026, at approximately 8 a.m., Cumberland House RCMP received a report of an injured person outside a business in Cumberland House. 

Officers immediately responded and located a male youth with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. They provided first aid to the victim until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries described as serious in nature.

Investigators identified a possible suspect, including a vehicle he was known to operate. Officers began searching for the suspect with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services.

Officers determined the suspect was inside a residence in Cumberland House. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team was engaged to assist with his arrest.

Conservation officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch and the Saskatchewan Marshals Service assisted Cumberland House RCMP in maintaining a perimeter around the residence.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., Cumberland House RCMP arrested the suspect without incident.

The investigation continued with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Services.

As a result, 29-year-old Preston Crane from Cumberland House is charged with:

- one count, aggravated assault, Section 268, Criminal Code; and

- one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on January 26.
