Saskatchewan RCMP Homicide Investigation Unit charges youth with second-degree murder

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) has charged a youth with second-degree murder following a homicide on Star Blanket Cree Nation.
On February 18, 2026, at approximately 12:05 a.m., File Hills First Nations Police Service responded to a report of a homicide on Star Blanket Cree Nation.
File Hills First Nations Police Service officers located a deceased adult male at a residence. They arrested a male teen at the scene. As File Hills First Nations Police Service does not have a Major Crimes branch, they engaged Saskatchewan RCMP to take full carriage of the investigation.
Following investigation, Saskatchewan RCMP’s HIU charged the male teen on February 18 with one count, second-degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code.
We will not identify the teen as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The victim and the accused are known to each other. We are not providing additional details about the relationship or the victim’s identity.
The youth is scheduled to appear in Fort Qu’Appelle Provincial Court on February 19, 2026.
