On January 27, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Coronach/Bengough RCMP received a report of a theft of a power pole.
Investigation determined unknown individuals went onto a rural farm property and cut down a SaskPower power pole and removed it. The power pole had live power supply and was connected to a transformer. The power in the area was disrupted for two hours while SaskPower crews worked to restore the power.
Coronach/Bengough RCMP are actively investigating and ask for the public’s assistance.
Police believe that once the pole was cut down, it was dragged through the farmyard into a field. The power pole was not recovered, so it is possible that it was loaded into a truck and removed from the area.
Cst. Gary Christopher from the Coronach RCMP said the theft created danger to both individual and public safety. “An abandoned rural property does not necessarily mean utilities are shut down – severe injury or death may occur,” he says. “Additionally, with winter conditions on that day, an action like this puts residents living in the area, and work crews, at risk.”
If you have information about this theft, contact Coronach/Bengough RCMP by dialling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
