Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit charges male teen with manslaughter

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) has charged a male teen with manslaughter following a homicide in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Bell's Point, SK.  

On February 25, 2026, at approximately 10:10 p.m., La Ronge RCMP received a report of an injured person at a residence in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Bell's Point. Officers responded immediately and located an injured adult male. 

EMS attended and declared the male deceased. He has been identified as a 38-year-old from the La Ronge area. His family has been notified, and victim services have been made available to them. 

At approximately 10:30 p.m., La Ronge RCMP officers arrested a male youth at another residence in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Bell's Point. Saskatchewan RCMP’s HIU took carriage of the investigation.

As a result of investigation, the RCMP HIU charged a 16-year-old male teen from the La Ronge area on February 26 with one count, manslaughter, Section 236(b), Criminal Code.

We will not identify the teen as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The victim and the accused are known to each other. We are not providing additional details about the relationship or the victim’s identity.

The youth is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on February 27, 2026.

The Homicide Investigation Unit, formerly known as the Major Crimes Unit, is part of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch.

The Homicide Investigation Unit investigates homicides, suspicious deaths, missing persons where foul play is suspected or likely, explosions believed to be of a criminal nature involving death or injury, and other incidents, as directed.
