One youth has been charged after a report of an individual with a firearm near a school in Balgonie.
On March 4th, 2026, Saskatchewan RCMP received a report of an individual with a firearm in a vehicle near the Greenall High School in Balgonie, Saskatchewan. Two male youth were arrested at the scene and officers located and seized three BB style long guns.
Investigation determined one of the youth discharged a BB style long gun at a vehicle at approximately 11:00 a.m. on March 4, 2026.
As a result of the continued investigation, a male youth has been charged with:
- one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1) Criminal Code;
- one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1) Criminal Code; and
- one count, mischief under $5,000, Section 430(4) Criminal Code.
The youth is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on April 8, 2026. (Information #Y409093)
The second male youth was released without charges.
The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents any further release of information regarding these individuals. As the investigation is ongoing and before the courts, the RCMP will not be making any further comments at this time.
Background
On March 4th, 2026 at 11:05 a.m. Saskatchewan RCMP received a report of an individual with a firearm in a vehicle near the Greenall High School in Balgonie, Saskatchewan. The school was placed on hold and secure. Officers from multiple units responded immediately. Two male youth were arrested at the scene and officers located and seized three BB style long guns. No injuries have been reported. There is no risk to public safety.
There will an increased police presence this afternoon in Balgonie as the investigation continues.
