National Police Services National Advisory Committee
The National Police Services National Advisory Committee provides strategic advice to the Commissioner of the RCMP and to the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Assistant Deputy Ministers Crime Prevention and Policing Committee through the Deputy Commissioner, Specialized Policing Services. The National Police Services National Advisory Committee consists of senior policing officials, representing all of the provinces and territories, from across Canada.
The mandate of the National Police Services National Advisory Committee is to:
- review the National Police Services mandate and provide recommendations to the Assistant Deputy Ministers Crime Prevention and Policing Committee and the Commissioner of the RCMP as it pertains to its relevancy and alignment with the needs of the National Police Services user community
- recommend strategic priorities for the Commissioner and Assistant Deputy Ministers Crime Prevention and Policing Committees consideration regarding the services to be maintained and delivered to the National Police Services community, as well as how these services are to be delivered
- support the exchange of information across the law enforcement community about the National Police Services and its challenges to ensure all stakeholders have the opportunity to influence the strategic direction of the National Police Services
- generally support the integrity, accessibility, viability and sustained delivery of National Police Services
The National Police Services National Advisory Committee includes a maximum of 17 voting members, as follows:
- one representative from each province, as selected by their respective Assistant Deputy Ministers Crime Prevention and Policing Committee member in collaboration with the provincial police associations (10 members)
- one representative from the territories as selected, by consensus, among the Assistant Deputy Ministers Crime Prevention and Policing Committee members from the territories (1 member)
- one representative each, from the Ontario Provincial Police and the Sûreté du Québec, as selected in consultation with the Ontario and Quebec Assistant Deputy Ministers Crime Prevention and Policing Committee members and the provincial police associations (2 members)
- one RCMP representative from each of British Columbia and Alberta (2 members)
- one Indigenous representative, as selected by the National Police Services National Advisory Committee members (1 member)
- the RCMP Deputy Commissioner, Specialized Policing Services (1 member)
The RCMP Deputy Commissioner, Specialized Policing Services, will share the chairing duties with another co-chair to be selected by National Police Services National Advisory Committee members.
