Whitehorse RCMP conduct traffic stop, leads to multiple firearms offences

Whitehorse RCMP responded to a complaint from the public and initiated a traffic stop. As a result of the investigation two men were arrested and charged with multiple offences.

On June 6, 2025 at 8:35 pm, RCMP received a call about two males who appeared to be using drugs inside a vehicle. Officers attended the location and initiated a traffic stop with the suspect vehicle.  Two male occupants were arrested from the vehicle and officers seized the following: two firearms, one being a loaded restricted handgun located within reach of the driver, a small amount of what is believed to be cocaine, a scale and large amount of cash. 

Two search warrants were obtained for a residence, the first of which was executed at approximately 5:40 am on June 7, 2025.  Members from the M Division Crime Reduction Unit, Emergency Response Team, Whitehorse Detachment and General Investigations Section aided in the execution/search of the residence.

Police seized an additional 23 firearms including rifles, shotguns, air rifles and a restricted .45 caliber handgun, multiple assorted firearm magazines, several prohibited by capacity, thousands of rounds of ammunition and various firearm components. Also seized were 2 crossbows and one compound bow. In addition, police seized 8 cell phones, several bundles of Canadian currency, and quantities of substances believed to be cocaine and fentanyl.

Brett Darrell Brandon Demchuk, 22 years old, and Dustin David Foss, 36 years old, both of Whitehorse appeared in court on Monday, June 9, 2025. Both Mr. Demchuk and Mr. Foss will next appear in court on June 11, 2025 at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm respectively.

Mr. Demchuk was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possess a loaded, restricted firearm and fail to comply with release order.

Mr. Foss was charged with numerous drug and firearm related charges including possession of a loaded restricted firearm, possession of a restricted handgun at a place not authorized, unsafe storage of a firearm (multiple counts), possess prohibited cartridge magazine, possess firearm for a dangerous purpose, possess proceeds of crime over $5000, possess cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possess fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.
