Yukon RCMP update on collision at the Lewes River Bridge

RCMP Whitehorse’s General Investigation Section has concluded their investigation into a single vehicle collision that occurred on September 16, 2024, on the Alaska Highway at the Lewes River Bridge.
A truck and trailer entered the Yukon River resulting in the death of the vehicle passenger, Knate Ostenso, an American citizen traveling through the Yukon. The driver, Seth Michael Jorgensen, also an American citizen, escaped the vehicle without injury.
As a result of the investigation, Mr. Jorgensen has been charged with Careless Driving under the Yukon Territorial Motor Vehicle Act.
Mr. Jorgensen will appear in Territorial Court on October 8, 2025, in Whitehorse. As this matter is now before the courts, no further information is available related to the investigation.
