Yukon RCMP Critical Incident Program (CIP) has a new tool to continue to enhance public safety in the Yukon. Tactical Armoured Vehicles (TAV) are used by Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) across Canada as their primary support vehicle when responding to calls.
Yukon RCMP received their TAV on October 31, 2025. This vehicle enhances public safety and officer safety in critical incidents.
The TAV is adaptable for varied roles, which include high-risk events, hostage takings, armed stand offs, barricaded persons, rescue operations and casualty extraction, for example, safely removing a wounded victim/officer from a dangerous scene.
The applications of the TAV are numerous and include many technical operations, including a platform for de-escalation by providing two-way communication for negotiations.
Most occurrences can be resolved through dialogue, which is why crisis intervention and de-escalation training is mandatory for all RCMP officers. However occasionally, police intervention may be necessary, including the use of intervention options or safety equipment like the TAV.
