The Yukon RCMP is providing an update this morning as extreme cold temperatures grip the territory. Despite the challenging conditions, RCMP officers are continuing their patrols and responding to emergencies. Police officers are experiencing an increase in calls for service to assist and rescue stranded motorists throughout Yukon.
Yukon RCMP strongly encourage everyone to avoid unnecessary travel if possible and remain indoors to keep warm. If you must travel, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready, carry emergency supplies, with sufficient fuel and let someone know your route and expected arrival time. An appropriate communication device that is not reliant on cellular service is highly recommended.
Due to the severe weather, Whitehorse Detachment and M Division Headquarters, Dawson City, Watson Lake, Haines Junction and Carcross non-emergency front counter services are closed for the remainder of today, however police officers are ready to respond when needed. Front counter services such as Criminal Record checks, are expected to resume December 24, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., weather dependent. RCMP will provide updates as required.
If you require police assistance for an emergency, you may attend any Yukon RCMP detachment and follow the directions or call 911.
For non-emergency matters, please use the Yukon RCMP non-emergency line at (867) XXX-5555.
Stay safe, stay warm, and thank you for your cooperation during these extreme conditions.
