On January 27, 2026 shortly after 1:00 p.m. Yukon RCMP closed the Alaska Highway as a result of an ongoing police investigation.
The Alaska Highway is closed in both directions near the McClintock River Bridge and North McClintock Road.
Southbound travel:
Local traffic on the Alaska Highway from the north, can access North McClintock Road/Swan Haven Drive.
For destinations beyond this point, drivers must detour via the Carcross Cutoff.
Northbound travel:
Traffic coming from the south for any destination past McClintock Valley Road on the Alaska Highway is detoured at Jake’s Corner.
Only local traffic from the south side can access the Alaska Highway as far as McClintock Valley Road.
Detour route:
Detours are in place at Jake’s Corner and the Carcross Cutoff, using the South Klondike Highway and Tagish Road.
RCMP are asking residents to avoid the area. The detour is expected to remain in place until tomorrow. We will provide further updates as they become available. Check Yukon 511 for the most up to date road information.
Yukon RCMP would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding.
