Yukon RCMP are advising the public of two updates to the RCMP service uniform for police officers across the Territory.
As part of ongoing efforts to modernize the RCMP uniform, a new navy-blue shirt has been introduced for frontline service. The national rollout of the new shirt began in fall 2025 and has been occurring on a rolling basis across the country. The rollout has now reached the Yukon, and frontline RCMP officers at all Yukon Detachments will begin wearing the new navy-blue uniform shirts while on duty.
During the transition period, RCMP officers will continue to wear grey uniform shirts. Members may wear either grey or navy-blue shirts as part of their service uniform. Both options are approved and authorized.
In addition to the shirt update, a national policy change now permits RCMP members to wear either their name or their regimental number on their uniform name tag. Both options are official and compliant with RCMP policy.
The RCMP understands that seeing a new uniform colour or numerical name tags may cause confusion. In most Yukon communities, residents are familiar with their local RCMP officers, however, relief members from outside the community may occasionally be deployed to support operations.
If there are concerns about an officer’s identity, members of the public are encouraged to ask the officer for identification. They may also contact their local RCMP detachment’s non‑emergency line at 867‑(local exchange) ‑2677, or the Operational Communications Centre at 867‑(local exchange)‑5555 to confirm.
“ RCMP uniform updates support a modern, effective police service by offering enhanced comfort, materials and a fit that reflects the evolving needs of today’s RCMP officers while maintaining the trust of the public to be visible, approachable and recognizable as the National and Territorial Police Service. “ - Chief Superintendent Lindsay Ellis, Commanding Officer of the Yukon RCMP
