Joint news release – Whitehorse Detachment and Yukon Coroner’s Service: Fatal collision in Whitehorse

On August 1, 2026, the Whitehorse RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Lazulite Drive at the Garnet Crescent intersection at 7:11 p.m. An electric kick scooter and an SUV were involved in the collision.

RCMP, Emergency Medical Services and the City of Whitehorse Fire Department attended the scene. One occupant of the scooter has since been confirmed deceased. The second occupant was transported for medical treatment and was later medically evacuated to receive further care.

An RCMP traffic analyst attended the scene and conducted an investigation, resulting in a portion of Lazulite Drive being closed for approximately five hours. While the investigation is ongoing, preliminary findings have not identified any indication of a criminal offence. No further information is available at this time.

Whitehorse RCMP and the Yukon Coroner’s Service offer their sincere condolences to the family, friends, and all those impacted by this tragedy.
