Whitehorse RCMP conduct fraud investigation resulting in charges

A Whitehorse General Investigation Section (GIS) investigation into fraudulent activity affecting some Bell Mobility customers in the Yukon has resulted in charges against a former employee of a local Bell cellular service provider.
On March 11, 2026, Whitehorse RCMP received a report from a manager suspecting employee fraud. The investigation determined that between November 2025 and March 2026, the former employee allegedly used her authorized access to company computer systems to add devices to customers' Bell Mobility accounts without their knowledge or consent.
Cellular devices were added to customer accounts, and the customer’s email information was changed to prevent purchase notifications from being received. Fraudulent contracts were created in customers' names. The devices were then allegedly taken and resold for personal profit while affected customers remained responsible for the associated charges on their accounts.
The investigation identified 39 Bell Mobility customer accounts belonging to Yukoners that were affected by the alleged fraud. The total retail value of the devices involved is approximately $65,000.
Whitehorse RCMP worked closely with Bell and affected customers throughout the investigation to help identify impacted accounts and assist with rectifying billing issues related to the alleged offences.
On August 3, 2026, Tanya Bhullar, 32, of Whitehorse, was arrested and released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Yukon Territorial Court on September 16, 2026.
Ms. Bhullar has been charged with:
- Fraud over $5,000
- Theft over $5,000
- Forgery
- Unauthorized Use of a Computer
- Mischief in Relation to Computer Data
- Identity Fraud
