Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate homicide in Driftpile First Nation - Update

Following the Aug. 15, 2025, weapons complaint, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit, assisted by Faust RCMP and Lakeshore Regional Police Service, conducted an investigation and were able to arrest a suspect in the death of 29-year-old Driftpile First Nation resident Brandon Lee Campiou, who’s death was deemed a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old individual, a resident of Edmonton, was charged with manslaughter.

The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in High Prairie, Alta., on Aug. 25, 2025.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate homicide in Driftpile First Nation

On Aug. 15, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Lakeshore Regional Police Service responded to a weapons complaint along Eva Road in Driftpile First Nation. Faust RCMP and the Lakeshore Regional Police Service both attended the location after the discovery of a male deceased. The Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit was subsequently notified and deployed to take carriage of the investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton on August 18, 2025.  Police are treating the death as a homicide.
