On Sept. 28, 2025, the Alberta RCMP led the Government of Alberta’s Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day 2025 at the Alberta Legislature south grounds. This is the same day as the Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day ceremony in Ottawa. Alberta’s ceremony took place at the Pillar of Strength, a monument recognizing fallen officers killed in the line of duty since 1876.

106 names are inscribed on the Pillar, with six of those names added in the last decade alone. Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day was an opportunity to honour all police and peace officers who lost their lives while serving communities in Alberta. The day saw speeches from dignitaries as well as reading of Alberta’s fallen officers’ names.

“Each name etched on the Pillar of Strength tells a story of courage, a story of sacrifice,” said Deputy Commissioner Trevor Daroux, Commanding Officer of the Alberta RCMP. “Each name represents not only a life of service, but also the deep loss felt by families, colleagues and communities.”
