Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate fatal pedestrian collision

Fort McMurray, Alta. – On Nov. 14, 2025 at approximately 10:09pm, Wood Buffalo RCMP and Regional Emergency Services were called to a pedestrian hit and run collision on Nokohoo Drive in Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, south of Fort McMurray. A male pedestrian had been struck by a black Ford F150 and suffered serious life-threatening injuries. The suspect vehicle involved had fled the collision. Witnesses reported seeing the truck driving at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. Before Police arrived on scene, the suspect vehicle and driver returned.
The pedestrian, a 58-year-old male resident of Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Wood Buffalo RCMP would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased.
The driver of the vehicle, a youth resident of Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, was arrested and was later released without charges. Wood Buffalo RCMP, with assistance from Wood Buffalo General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Services, and Alberta RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstruction, continue to investigate the collision.
