Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate theft and arson, suspect sought

Fort McMurray, Alta – On Nov. 15, 2025 at approximately 3:26 am., Wood Buffalo RCMP and Regional Emergency Services responded to a report of a building on fire in the downtown area of Fort McMurray. Police learned that a Komatsu loader had been seen driving on Prairie Loop Blvd prior to striking 8104 Fraser Avenue and catching fire. As a result, the building and loader sustained significant damage.

Video surveillance was obtained by RCMP and the suspect was captured fleeing the scene on foot, prior to police arrival.

The suspect is believed to have knowledge and experience operating this type of piece of equipment.
