Fort McMurray, Alta. – In Sept. 2025, Wood Buffalo RCMP held a special career presentation event from a female perspective at the Wood Buffalo Detachment in Fort McMurray. The event, spearheaded by Corporal Tracy Hare of Wood Buffalo Detachment, was attended by 20 aspiring applicants ranging in age from 16 to 45. The attendees were provided an overview of the application process by Constable Amber Farrell from the Alberta RCMP Recruiting Unit, and had presentations from more then 15 female members who are part of the Wood Buffalo Detachment, including Forensic Identification Section, Specialized Investigations, General Investigation and Drug Sections and Community Policing.

The attendees had the opportunity to interact with the members throughout the day. Many members shared theirs experiences from attending Depot to life in the field and why they chose a career in the RCMP. The day finished out with participation in the RCMP’s new Police Fitness Assessment. Participant Feedback following the session was positive and some of those who attended indicated they felt closer to a career with the RCMP after the presentation.

“We spent months planning this recruiting event, hoping to offer something geared towards women interested in a career with the RCMP. The response from the community was wonderful. The feedback from the participants was also positive, which encourages us to consider offering this opportunity again in the future” says Cpl. Tracy Hare.
