Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate local business for selling unstamped cigarettes

Fort McMurray, Alta – On Nov. 26, 2025 the Wood Buffalo RCMP Drug section executed a search warrant at business located on Macalpine Crescent in the Gregoire area in Fort McMurray. The warrant was executed as a result of an investigation into illegal cigarette sales that began in Sept. 2025.

As a result of the warrant, police located and seized:

  • 4 cartons of unstamped cigarettes
  • 9 packs of unstamped cigarettes

A 45-year-old resident of Fort McMurray was issued a Provincial violation ticket for S. 4(1) of the Tobacco Tax Act – non-consumer purchase, possess, store, sell less than 1000 cigarettes. The issued ticket has the voluntary option to pay $1200 or appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on January 9, 2026.

A 44-year-old, and 42-year-old, both residents of Fort McMurray were issued Provincial violation tickets for S. 4(1) of the Tobacco Tax Act – non-consumer purchase, possess, store, sell less than 400 cigarettes. The issued ticket has the voluntary option to pay $300 or appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on January 23, 2026.
