Edson, Alta. - On Nov. 21, 2025, while conducting a traffic stop, a member of the Edson RCMP Detachment recognized the driver of the vehicle he had pulled over as the suspect of a theft from a local store. The suspect was arrested and more than $8500 of stolen merchandise was found in the vehicle. The investigation was able to determine that some of the merchandise was stolen from three different stores in Edson, with further evidence suggesting that the individual was also linked to other similar investigations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. The suspect was also found in possession of an instrument designed to defeat anti-theft devices from retail stores.
As a result, a 42-year-old of Romanian national, was charged with:
- Theft under $5000 (x2);
- Theft over $5000; and
- Breach of release order.
The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and was remanded into custody, to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Edson on Dec. 9, 2025.
