Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit & Leduc Drug Unit charge repeat offender with trafficking after conducting condition checks

Wetaskiwin, Alta - In September 2025, the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) & Leduc Drug Unit initiated an investigation into a repeat offender to ensure compliance with their 18 month Community Sentence Order (CSO) and Release Order. These court orders stemmed from previous drug trafficking investigations conducted in July and October of 2024.
Between September and December 2025, the suspect was observed breaching the conditions of his CSO and Release Order on multiple occasions.
On Dec. 17, 2025, with assistance from the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services, the suspect was arrested for breaching threir CSO and Release Order.
During the arrest, police observed drug paraphernalia inside the suspects vehicle. As a result, the Wetaskiwin General Investigation Section obtained a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to search the vehicle and holiday trailer.
The following items were seized during the investigation:
- $8,269.00 in Canadian currency
- Approximately 171 grams of methamphetamine
- Approximately 7.1 grams of cocaine
- 40 ml of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB)
As a result of the investigation, RCMP have charged a 30-year-old, resident of Leduc with the following offences:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking GHB
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Resist / Obstruct Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply with Release Order (x3)
- Breach CSO (x8)
They were brought before a Justice of the Peace and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Ponoka on Dec. 19, 2025.
“Repeat offenders who continue to disregard court orders and engage in drug trafficking will be a priority for Wetaskiwin RCMP,” said Cpl. Learn of the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit. “We will continue to use all available resources and work collaboratively with our district and specialized units to target those who pose a risk to community safety.”
“Collaboration between specialized units is critical in drug investigations,” said Cst.Scott Hansen of the Leduc RCMP Drug Unit. “Sharing intelligence and resources helps reduce the impact of illicit drugs in our communities. “
