Barrhead RCMP makes arrest after attempted murder by arson

Barrhead, Alta. – On Dec. 13, 2025, Barrhead RCMP were asked to assist with a structure fire on Range Road 45 in Barrhead. Upon arrival, RCMP spoke to the resident and learned that the fire had most likely been intentionally set as someone had tried to keep them from exiting the residence. Upon further investigation, the suspect was identified and arrested. The incident is believed to be targeted.

As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old, resident of Barrhead, was charged with:

• Attempted murder;
• Arson - Disregard for human life;
• Forcible confinement;
• Assault causing bodily harm; and
• Assault.

The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Barrhead on Dec. 23, 2025.
